Congratulations Professor Christianne Glossop OBE!

27th Oct 2020 By Beth Perry

The Gwaredu BVD team are pleased to hear that Professor Christianne Glossop, Chief Veterinary Officer for Wales, was recently awarded an OBE for services to animal health and welfare.

Prof. Glossop has worked closely with Gwaredu BVD and has always been a keen supporter of the programme. She joins us at the Royal Welsh Show each year to talk about the importance of testing for BVD, knowing your status and if necessary, hunting for those PI’s that are the route of the problem.

Prof Glossop became the first person to be appointed to her role in 2005, and has dedicated her life to animal health and welfare.

Speaking about her award, Christianne Glossop commented:

“You hear people talking about this experience and you can’t imagine it would be you. You get the letter and think it must be a wind up or a mistake.”

“I decided that I wanted to be a vet when I was 13 years old… I set my heart on that. It’s been an amazing and varied career, but everything I’ve done has been based with that in mind – when practicing, when researching, when lecturing and consulting around the world.

“To see those words next to my name, it means the world. I was surprised, and I was humbled.

“This is a strange year for all of us in so many ways. Never before have we all, as a society, acknowledged the impact of being healthy as much as now. There is this phrase, ‘One Health’, which means the health of people, animals and the environment are all linked.

“To be given this award now means a lot as we know how important it is to promote our health, animals’ health and the environment’s health.”

John Griffiths, Gwaredu BVD Project Lead said:

“We are so pleased for Christianne, she deserves this recognition. Having worked closely over the course of the Gwaredu BVD programme her passion for animal health and welfare is clear. She has been an advocate of our industry led programme from the start, and we are thankful for her support.”

A big congratulations Christianne! Thank you for your continuing support.
